Is there a solution to how to treat anxiety
Is there a solution to how to treat anxiety? In order to get the answer to that question, you want to start with an understanding of what anxiety is and is not. Have you ever had a vague feeling of fear or discomfort without knowing why? That is anxiety in one of its rather benign disguises. As any sufferer knows, it can and usually does escalate from there.
When someone suffers what is called an anxiety or panic attack, they can actually feel like they are having a heart attack or losing their minds. These attacks can come out of nowhere and can even happen while sleeping. It is not unusual for people to end up in the emergency room. In reality, that is probably the best thing that can happen to someone in that position. A medical professional's diagnosis of anxiety can help a sufferer begin to understand what is happening.
Anxiety is not something that is just in your head. You cannot just use mind over matter to cure yourself. All of us with anxiety know that when it first starts you feel that you can control it or ignore it. I hope that has worked for you, but it certainly has not worked for me. Trying to control or ignore my anxiety only led to more anxiety. So what is the key to overcoming anxiety?
The key is a very small organ in your brain called the amygdala. The amygdala serves the very useful purpose of heightening our awareness in times of danger. This is what is called "fight or flight". Normally, when the danger is over the amygdala switches off. The problem is that in some people, it does not switch off. When the switch does not get turned to the off position, you will have a feeling of constant discomfort without being able to understand why.
While feeling anxious or fearful is natural in some situations, it is not natural to feel that way all the time. Anyone with an anxiety condition knows exactly what I mean. It is so frustrating to know that you have nothing to be anxious about, but yet you are anxious.
Here is where the proper treatment comes in. What you will need to do, is re-program your amygdala. Although it sounds difficult, there are actually methods which make it fairly easy. These methods will be the subject of my next article. For more information, please visit my resource site listed below.
